Mohammad Abdul Jabbar (1915–1993) was a renowned Bangladeshi astronomer and one of the pioneers of astronomy in Bangladesh. He was the first person to prepare star charts in the Bengali language. Under his supervision and planning, the first celestial globe of Bangladesh was constructed. He also served as the founding President of the Bangladesh Astronomical Society.
To honor the invaluable contributions of Abdul Jabbar and countless other scientists and researchers to science and astronomy, and to inspire curiosity and interest in the wonders of the Universe, the Abdul Jabbar Astronomy Workshop is organized every year.

Continuing this tradition, the IAU National Outreach Coordinator Bangladesh (NOC-BD) is pleased to announce the 18th Abdul Jabbar Astronomy Workshop 2026. The workshop in the Dhaka region is being organized by the National Outreach Coordinator, Bangladesh, Office for Astronomy Outreach (OAO), International Astronomical Union (IAU), together with the National Volunteer Team.
