Astro Glossary Team

The OAE Multilingual Glossary is a global initiative developed by the IAU Office of Astronomy for Education (OAE) in partnership with the IAU Office of Astronomy Outreach (OAO). It is a comprehensive collection of astronomical terms and definitions specifically curated to appear in educational contexts. Our NOC-BD translation teams are currently working to fully translate this extensive resource into Bangla to expand our national library of accessible astronomy resources.

The glossary provides core, authoritative definitions that are originally written by professional astronomers. Every definition is rigorously reviewed by both astronomers and teachers to guarantee that the scientific information is correct while remaining easily understandable for students. By translating the terms into Bangla, the project ensures that language is not an obstacle for local students and enthusiasts engaging with the astronomy. The localized glossary acts as a foundational resource for our AstroSchool programs, public sky observation events, and STEM workshops across the country. All glossary terms and their definitions are released under a Creative Commons CC BY-4.0 license. This means they are completely free for educators, science communicators, and the public to use, provided credit is given to “IAU OAE”.
