Mohammad Abdul Jabbar (1915–1993) was a Bangladeshi astronomer and a pioneer of astronomy in the country. He was the first to create a star chart in the Bengali language. Under his supervision and planning, the first planetarium in Bangladesh was constructed. He also served as the founding president of the Bangladesh Astronomical Society.
In remembrance of the contributions of Abdul Jabbar and countless other researchers and scientists in the fields of science and astronomy, and to foster public curiosity and fascination about space, the Abdul Jabbar Astronomy Workshop is organized annually.
Continuing the legacy of the previous year, the IAU National Outreach Coordinator Bangladesh (NOC-BD) is organizing the IAU-Abdul Jabbar Astronomy Workshop 2025.
This year’s 3-day workshop in Chattogram — one of the largest astronomy workshops in the country — will cover fundamental topics in astronomy, including discussions on:
- Astronomy
- Black Holes
- Supernovae
- Galaxies
- Exoplanets
- Astrophysics
- Astrobiology
Additionally, there will be night sky observation sessions and an engaging astronomy quiz competition.
Speakers at the workshop will include renowned astronomers, professors, and astronomy educators from both Bangladesh and abroad. The main organizer is the NOC-BD office of the International Astronomical Union. Co-organizers include the Bangladesh Astronomical Society, the Bangladesh Science Popularization Society, and the Universe Awareness Program.

Who can participate?
The workshop is open to students from:
- Secondary level (only 9th and 10th grades)
- Higher secondary level (11th and 12th grades)
- Undergraduate and postgraduate levels

মোহাম্মদ আবদুল জব্বার (১৯১৫ – ১৯৯৩) ছিলেন একজন বাংলাদেশি জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞানী। তিনি বাংলাদেশে জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞান চর্চার অগ্রদূত। তিনিই প্রথম বাংলায় আকাশের তারাসমূহের ছক তৈরি করেন। তার সার্বিক তত্ত্বাবধানে ও পরিকল্পনায়ই বাংলাদেশের প্রথম খ-গোলক নির্মিত হয়। তিনি বাংলাদেশ অ্যাস্ট্রোনমিক্যাল সোসাইটির প্রতিষ্ঠাতা সভাপতি ছিলেন। বিজ্ঞান ও জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞানে আবদুল জব্বারের মতো হাজারো গবেষক ও বিজ্ঞানীদের অবদান মনে রাখতে এবং মহাকাশ নিয়ে মানুষের কৌতূহল আর তৃষ্ণা নিবারণের প্রয়াসে প্রতিবছর আয়োজন করা হয় আবদুল জব্বার জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞান কর্মশালা
গত বছরের ধারাবাহিকতায় IAU National Outreach Coordinator Bangladesh (NOC-BD) আয়োজন করতে চলেছে IAU-আবদুল জব্বার অ্যাস্ট্রোনমি ওয়ার্কশপ ২০২৫।
এবারের চট্টগ্রাম অঞ্চলে আয়োজিত জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞানের মৌলিক বিষয়গুলোর পাশাপাশি ৩ দিন ব্যাপি চলা দেশের সবচেয়ে বড়ো এই জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞান ওয়ার্কশপে থাকছে,

কর্মশালায় বক্তা হিসেবে থাকবেন দেশের ও বাইরের জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞানী, অধ্যাপক এবং জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞান প্রশিক্ষকবৃন্দ। কর্মশালার মূল আয়োজক আন্তর্জাতিক জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞান সংস্থা’র নক-বিডি অফিস। এছাড়াও সহ-আয়োজক হিসেবে থাকবে বাংলাদেশ অ্যাস্ট্রোনমিকাল সোসাইটি, বাংলাদেশ বিজ্ঞান জনপ্রিয়করণ সমিতি ও ইউনিভার্স অ্যাওয়ারনেস প্রোগ্রাম।

অংশগ্রহণকারীদের জন্য যা থাকছে:

- জমাদান সফল হলে ফিরতি SMS এ প্রাপ্ত Transaction ID টি সংরক্ষণ করতে হবে এবং নিচের ফর্মটি পূরণ করার মাধ্যমে রেজিস্ট্রেশন সম্পন্ন করতে হবে।
- ফরমটি পূরণ করতে Transaction ID টির প্রয়োজন হবে।
- রেজিস্ট্রেশন সম্পন্ন হলে ফর্ম পূরণ করার ৪৮ ঘন্টার মধ্যে ইমেইলে নিশ্চিত করা হবে।
